The Hallways Inside This Remodeled Farmhouse Are Illuminated With LED Lighting

PAULO MERLINI architects have completed the remodel of an old farmhouse in Gondomar, Portugal, and turned it into a modern home.

One way the architects chose to highlight the old and new elements in the home, was with the inclusion of lighting that lines the walls.

By using illuminated LED strips, the stone, concrete, and wood walls throughout the home are able to be showcased in a subtle way.

Not only do they allow the original stone elements to shine, but they also guide people around the home, as each of the hallways is illuminated.

During the remodeling process, the architects discovered that the home was actually made up of three small houses built according to the needs of the former owner.

Maintaining the structure of the original volumes, the architects unified them through a slab that was perforated by a central patio that filters light through to the social areas of the home on the ground floor. A rooftop garden was also created, allowing further outdoor space for the homeowners.

Inside the home, there are sliding glass walls, a sunken living room, a wood kitchen, a spiral staircase, minimalist bedrooms, concrete floors, white walls, and wood ceilings.
